An airport opened in 2006 on an artificial island in the Suo-nada Sea. As an offshore airport it has no noise restrictions, and it is one of the few 24-hour airports in Japan, handling cargo and late-night flights. The shops in the terminal building sell specialties of the Kitakyushu and Kanmon area, such as nuka-daki (simmered in rice-bran paste) and Kurogane Katapan (hard bread). It is about 35 min by bus from Kokura Station.
