Press Butter Sand is so popular that numbered tickets are handed out to buy it.
There were huge lines from the day the shop opened, and there are only three shops in Tokyo.
There is no mail order, so you have to line up to buy it!

This is a shop of BAKE Inc., which also runs "BAKE Cheese Tart," famous for its freshly baked cheese tarts.
BAKE originally grew out of Kinotoya, a Hokkaido shop.
True to those roots, it uses fresh Hokkaido butter as an ingredient.

Two layers of filling, smooth butter cream made with that fresh butter and silky butter caramel, are sandwiched between carefully made cookies.
And although the filling is butter, it is nothing like the heavy butter you spread on bread.
The butter cream is airy like a souffle.
The butter caramel melts smoothly and has a refined, silky texture.
It dissolves gently.

It looks like a thick, square cookie that sits lightly in the palm.
It is very rich in flavor, as it uses an original blend of Hokkaido wheat flour and plenty of fresh butter.
The texture is crunchy at first bite, then crumbly.
The "hasami-yaki" (sandwich baking) method removes just the right amount of oil, so the cookie has a great texture.

The shape was also designed to be easy to eat.
The cookie is box-shaped so the soft filling stays enclosed and does not squeeze out when you bite.
Lines are scored on the cookie surface so it breaks easily.
What attention to detail!
It seems the sweet was designed with even the smile of the person eating it in mind.

Not knowing that, I bit into a corner and the shape fell apart.
When you eat it, I recommend breaking it in half along the lines in the pattern on the cookie surface.

The packaging is simple but stylish.
The long lines make it a great conversation piece.
Giving it as a souvenir is sure to earn you extra points, especially with women.
