By now there can hardly be anyone who does not know it.
Marusei Butter Sand is the flagship product of Rokkatei, one of Hokkaido's best-known confectionery makers.

A cream made from butter churned from 100% Tokachi milk (Marusei butter) and white chocolate is mixed with rum raisins and sandwiched between thick biscuits, making a sweet with a grown-up taste.
It is known for the moist, rich flavor of the cream and the crisp texture of the biscuits.

Buttercream tends to sound heavy, but the trinity of biscuit, buttercream and rum raisins is simply exquisite.
Once in your mouth, the flavor of butter and rum raisins fills every corner and you feel truly indulged.
Chilling it in the refrigerator before eating gives it yet another flavor to enjoy.

"Marusei" is the character "sei" written inside a circle (maru), and the butter is officially called "Marusei Bata".

How about it as a souvenir from Hokkaido or from a Hokkaido products fair?

What Japanese buyers say

Reviewers overwhelmingly praise the rich rum-raisin butter cream with white chocolate between soft, buttery cookies, and many say even raisin-haters love it; chilling or freezing it is a popular tip. The retro red packaging and reliable popularity make it a go-to gift for coworkers and family. Several warn of the short refrigerated shelf life, high calories, and a slightly high price.
